There are some allusions to the legendary Welsh figure of King Arthur in Warframe.

Excalibur is a playable Warframe whose name references the mythical sword of King Arthur. The sword’s name ultimately derives from the original Welsh name, Caledfwlch, meaning “hard cleft”.

The Warframe Excalibur can also equip various helmets referencing Arthurian tales.

The Avalon helmet alludes to the mythical land in which the sword Excalibur was forged, and where King Arthur was taken to recover from his wounds after the Battle of Camlann.

The Mordred helmet references the Arthurian character (known in Welsh as Medraut). He has been depicted as both Arthur’s nephew and son in different texts, with later ones painting him in a more traitorous light.

The Pendragon helmet comes from the surname given to King Arthur, although it was first mentioned as the title of his father, Uther. “Pendragon” or “Pen Draig” comes from the Welsh pen (“head, chief”) and draig (“dragon”), meaning “head dragon” or “chief dragon”. However, it can essentially be interpreted as “chief leader”.

The Arturius helmet can be said to come from the Vulgar Latin dialect variant of Arthur’s name.

Possessing Excalibur’s traits, the Protoframe character Arthur Nightingale is another reference to King Arthur. Some characters allude to the Welsh figure further when they refer to Arthur as a “king” or make other such remarks.

The character Loid’s name is a variant of the Welsh name Lloyd, originating from the Welsh word llwyd, meaning “grey”.
