Dyrnwyn (meaning “White Hilt” in Welsh) was one of the Thirteen Treasures of the Island of Britain and owned by Rhydderch Hael (Rhydderch the Generous). Rhydderch was a ruler of the Hen Ogledd (Old North) of Britain and appeared in mythical works such as the Welsh Triads, earning his name for his generosity in allowing others to wield the sword. The blade of Dyrnwyn was said to burst into flame if it was held by a worthy man, but due to its peculiarities, recipients would reject it.
