Excalibur is a weapon that can be obtained in Vagrant Story.
In Arthurian tales, Excalibur is the legendary sword of King Arthur, with its name ultimately deriving from the Welsh Caledfwlch, where caled means ‘hard’ and bwlch is ‘cleft’. It appears in many interpretations of the stories of King Arthur, but it is first mentioned in Welsh mythology, including the earliest surviving Welsh tale, Culhwch and Olwen (Culhwch ac Olwen).
Some of the accessories that can be acquired feature Arthurian references.
Morgan’s Nails may allude to the sorceress Morgan le Fay (or Morgan, Morgen), although its description references Morrighan, a figure from Irish mythology.
Marlene’s Ring may reference Merlin. Its description says it was “worn by the sage Marlene, said to prove her half-devil, half-human blood”, and may be alluding to one interpretation of Merlin in which he was the son of a human and a devil himself.
Nimje’s Coif may be referencing the Lady of the Lake, known as Nimue, or other variations. It is possible that the Welsh sorceress Morgan was the original character of the legend.
