The Land Beneath Us draws inspiration from Welsh mythology and takes place in Annwn’s Underworld.

References to Arawn and Hafgan, the rival kings of Annwn in the Welsh Otherworld, exist in the form of characters and items.

The character Afanc, in a crocodile-like form, is based on the Welsh mythology creature of the same name.

The three realms of existence – Annwn, Abred and Gwynfed – are key parts of the game. These concepts can trace their origins to the writings of controversial Welsh antiquarian Iolo Morganwg.

Some location names also use Welsh words, such as Llosgi Land (llosgi meaning “burn”) and Cursed Coedwig (coedwig meaning “forest”).
