The plot for Rhiannon: Curse of the Four Branches draws a lot of inspiration from the Welsh legends in the Mabinogion, some of the earliest written stories of ancient Britain.
The game takes place in a fictional town called Ty Pryderi, a farmstead in west Wales, and the Welsh developers of Arberth Studios used their own location as the inspiration for the setting.
In Welsh legend, Pryderi was the king of Dyfed and son of Rhiannon. The latter is said to be from the Celtic otherworld, interpreted as a goddess, and is often associated with horses, including the Gaulish horse goddess Epona.
