Welsh mythical figure Arianrhod is an Empress Persona in Persona 2: Eternal Punishment.
Although she appears in the Welsh Mabinogion tales, she is also interpreted in numerous other ways. Her name comes the Welsh words arian meaning “silver”, and rhod meaning “wheel” or “circle”. As such, she is depicted as a goddess, where her “silver wheel” represents the moon and the cycle of rebirth.
Her quote from the game is as follows:
I am the silver wheel, Arianrhod… The one who destroys evil with the rainbow… I will be etched with you on the scribes of fate!
Cŵn Annwn, the spectral hounds of Annwn, the Welsh Otherworld, appear as demons.
Like the first Persona game on the original PlayStation, Persona 2: Eternal Punishment received a poor Western localisation that altered many of the names of mythical creatures. In this case, Cŵn Annwn had its name changed to Kun Anun.
Unlike Persona 2: Innocent Sin, which received a PSP remaster that rectified the name changes in the West, Persona 2: Eternal Punishment‘s PSP version was never released outside of Japan. This means the only localised version available to players in the West is the PlayStation game, which contains those drastic name changes.
