Just as in the first game, Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, Welsh characterisation is applied to fairy characters.

The character Lofty has a Welsh accent and is voiced by Welsh actor Owain Arthur. The non-voiced text dialogue further emphasises his Welsh dialect, such as spelling words how they are pronounced (“youer” for “your”; “ouer” for “our”; “mun” for “man”) and using commonly spoken words like “tidy”.

The location where Lofty is first met is Cwsg-y-Ddraig, which can be translated from Welsh to “The Sleeping Dragon”.
