As well as British and Irish, a lot of the folklore Mandrake draws upon is Welsh in origin.

Some character names are Welsh, including the default player character name, Morgan.

The game is said to allow players to plant strange seeds, including the “thunder-calling taran” and self-watering rhewyn. In the Welsh language, taran means “thunder” and rhewyn refers to a drain or gutter.

The first trailer for Mandrake was voiced by Welsh actor Tobias Weatherburn.
