The Water Reaper is based on the mythical Welsh creature Llamhigyn y Dŵr, known as the Water Leaper in English.
It is possible its name in Lost Kingdoms II is a mistranslation of the Japanese name, which can be pronounced as either “Water Reaper” or “Water Leaper”.
The Phooka references the mythical creature commonly known in Celtic folklore by similar names such as pwca (Welsh) and púca (Irish).
Lost Kingdoms II takes place in a land called Argwyll. Although this could reference the historic county of Argyll in Scotland, there are strong Welsh language similarities in Argwyll’s name.
The Welsh word ar can mean “on” or “at”, while gwyll means “twilight, dusk, gloom, darkness”.
