The Water Hopper is based on the mythical Welsh creature Llamhigyn y Dŵr, known as the Water Leaper in English.
In the story of Lost Kingdoms, the First Great King was named Gryfidd the Golden. This name is of Welsh origin, and a spelling variant of Gruffudd or Gruffydd.
Lost Kingdoms takes place in a land called Argwyll. Although this could reference the historic county of Argyll in Scotland, there are strong Welsh language similarities in Argwyll’s name.
The Welsh word ar can mean “on” or “at”, while gwyll means “twilight, dusk, gloom, darkness”.
