There are many characters in Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade that feature names of Welsh origin.
The priestess character Elen is a Welsh name meaning “nymph”. The Welsh Saint Elen (Elen Luyddog in Welsh, meaning “Helen of the Hosts”) is credited with founding churches in Wales during the 4th century. Elen verch Llywelyn was the 13-century daughter of Welsh ruler Llywelyn the Great.
Eliwood’s name is distinctly similar to that of Eliwlod, the nephew of King Arthur in Welsh legends.
The bard Elffin has the same name as the Welsh prince that raised the legendary Welsh poet Taliesin. Elffin also goes by Prince Myrddin in the game, referencing Myrddin Wyllt, a fellow bard that is also commonly known as Merlin the wizard from Arthurian tales.
The character Merlinus additionally references Myrddin, who bears the Latin version of Myrddin’s name.
Gwendolyn’s name can mean “white ring” or “blessed ring” in the Welsh language.
