Fallout 4 has a few Welsh references, with its most notable one being the airship named the Prydwen. This comes from the name of King Arthur’s ship in Welsh legends, which he used to sail to Ireland and the Otherworld of Annwn.
Fittingly, the man that gave the aircraft its name in Fallout 4 is Elder Arthur Maxson, the ship’s commander. According to Captain Kells, Elder Maxson “took the name from a work of historical fiction. Something about a man who was destined to become a king, and his journey to liberate his people from tyranny and oppression.”
While Arthur Maxson’s first name alludes to King Arthur, his last name, Maxson, references the former emperor and founder of various Welsh kingdoms in the fourth century, Macsen Wledig. Welsh legends have portrayed him as a king of Britain.
Aside from Arthur Maxson, other characters with names of Welsh origin include Rhys, Gwen, Gwyneth, Evan, and the Pembroke family.
There is a location called Taffington boathouse, which may take its name from the River Taff (Afon Taf) in Wales.
