The main character of Drakengard is Caim, whose name is Welsh and comes from the common Welsh male name Cai, which means “amddiffynydd” in Welsh, or “protector” or “defender” in English.
Caim also comes from the fictional country of Caerleon, which may reference the real town of Caerleon in Wales. The world of Drakengard is Europe rotated 180 degrees, and laying a map of Europe back over the game’s map shows that Wales sits close to where the Caerleon in the game world is.
The story of Drakengard is inspired by Celtic mythology, too, so Caerleon sharing its name with the Welsh location may not just be a coincidence.
