Dragon Caffi takes place in the world of Aethwy, which has the same name as that of a region on the Welsh island of Anglesey (Ynys Môn).

Some characters have Welsh names, including Mabli, Megan, Dafydd, Tegwen, Gethin, Iwan, Gruffydd, Gladys, Angharad, Gareth, Caradog, Deryn, and Meredith.

There are clear Welsh Dragon inspirations in the game, with red dragon designs similar to that of Y Ddraig Goch.
