Gwyn, Lord of Cinder, who was a key part of the first Dark Souls game’s narrative, is referenced in minor ways in the lore of Dark Souls II.

Gwyn’s name can have multiple meanings in the Welsh language, including “white, pure, holy, blessed”. His character in the first Dark Souls bears similarities to the mythical Welsh figure Gwyn ap Nudd.

In Dark Souls II, Gwyn’s name has been lost, but some descriptive text and statues in the location of Heide resemble him, while his soul plays a role in certain events, including what happens to the Old Iron King boss.

Mentioned only in text, Llewellyn was a blacksmith who crafted the Llewellyn Shield, Llewellyn Armor, Llewellyn Gloves and Llewellyn Shoes, and numerous weapons including the Espada Ropera, Royal Dirk, Twinblade and Grand Lance.

Llewellyn is a variant of the popular Welsh name Llywelyn. Throughout Welsh history there have been a number of powerful Welsh kings, princes and warriors with this name, including Llywelyn ap Gruffudd, one of the last native Welshmen to be crowned Prince of Wales, and Llywelyn the Great, who ruled and united most of Wales between the 12th and 13th centuries.
