Chasing Static takes place in the fictional town of Hearth, or Aelwyd in Welsh, in the countryside of north Wales. Developer Nathan Hamley decided to set the game in Wales after a scary experience getting lost in a storm on the way to a camping trip in Snowdonia.
Coordinates given in the game’s trailer provide a rough idea of where Hearth may be located, with Beddgelert looking like the closest real village. The Anrhegion Gelert gift shop in the game may further strengthen this claim (anrhegion is Welsh for “gifts”).
There is a female character with the Welsh name Aneira, while some references are made to particular words in Cymraeg, the Welsh language.
