Featured Welsh Content

Many characters in Bravely Default II feature Welsh accents, particularly those from the city of Rimedhal. Some of these characters’ names are Welsh in origin, while many of the actors that voice the roles are also Welsh.

The character Galahad, whose naming origins may lie in the legend of King Arthur, is voiced by Rhys ap Trefor.

Kimberley Nixon voices Martha, while Rhydian Jones plays the role of Helio.

Margaret and Gladys, the latter of which is a Welsh name, are portrayed by Kezia Burrows.

Matthew Gravelle voices the little dragon Gwilym, which is a name of Welsh origin.

The name of the dragon Gwydion is Welsh, too, and may derive from the mythical Welsh magician and trickster Gwydion fab Dôn.

A Welsh name is also given to the character Father Rhydion.

Arthurian weapons from Welsh mythology can be acquired in Bravely Default II.

These include the Rhongomiant (Rhongomyniad) spear, the Carnwenhan (Carnwennan) dagger, and the Excalibur (Caledfwlch) sword. In Welsh legends, these were King Arthur’s sacred weapons. Additionally, the Priwen shield can be obtained, referencing the shield of Arthur named Pridwen.

Gawain’s Axe is also acquirable, referencing the knight Gawain of Arthurian legend. Gawain was said to be based on the mythical Welsh hero Gwalchmei ap Gwyar.
