Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced is a remake of the 2013 game Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. As a result, the main character is again the fictional Welsh pirate Edward James Kenway.

He was born in Swansea to a Welsh mother and English father. Welsh actor Matt Ryan is Kenway’s voice and motion capture actor, and although Kenway has a Welsh accent, it isn’t as strong as Ryan’s natural Swansea accent.

The background of Kenway hadn’t been established when Matt Ryan auditioned, but after hearing his natural accent and being given the role, Kenway’s Welsh background was set in stone.

Kenway names his ship the Jackdaw after the common bird found across Wales.
