Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced is a remake of the 2013 game Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, with Welsh references from the original game making their way over to this version.

The main character is fictional Welsh pirate Edward James Kenway, born in Swansea to a Welsh mother and English father.

Portrayed by Welsh actor Matt Ryan, Kenway was initially going to be a northern English character. However, after getting the role and heading to Montreal for performance capture, the team got curious about Ryan’s natural Swansea accent. Impressed, the team adjusted Kenway’s background to that of a Welshman, matching Ryan’s origins.

Kenway names his ship the Jackdaw after the common bird found across Wales.

Welsh pirate Bartholomew Roberts, also known as Black Bart (Barti Ddu in Welsh) is a main character in the game, portrayed with a Welsh accent and directly mentioning his hometown of Casnewydd-bach in Pembrokeshire.
