I recently spoke to the talented Welsh singer and actor Osian Llewelyn Edwards about his incredible Welsh language versions of video game songs.
Osian has translated and recorded Cymraeg renditions of famous songs such as “Jump Up, Super Star!” from Super Mario Odyssey, “Peaches” from The Super Mario Bros. Movie, “Live and Learn” from Sonic Adventure 2, and more.
As soon as I discovered Osian’s YouTube page where all of these amazing songs are shared, I just had to chat with him to learn about the whole process and the work that goes into producing them. It was a fascinating discussion, and one made all the more enjoyable by hearing Osian’s passion for video game music and Nintendo games.
Osian also talks to me about his acting and singing career, cultural differences in songs, the importance of evolving languages, meeting former Super Mario voice actor Charles Martinet, his favourite Welsh references in video games, and much more.
