Welsh mythology RPG Toward Dawn released today

The Welsh mythology inspired role-playing game Toward Dawn has released on Steam today.

Created by solo developer Gina Markey – also known as Devi Serene – Toward Dawn has been a highly anticipated game for many reasons. The Welsh inspirations and countless references to Wales already made it incredibly appealing, but the gorgeous pixel art style and turn-based battles inspired by Elden Ring make Toward Dawn all the more desirable.

The story centres on Carys – who loses everything when her temple is attacked – and her gwyllgi companion Bleddyn, who is feared among the public. Learning to put their differences aside and trusting in each other, they combine their unique abilities and strengths as they take revenge together.

Although many games draw inspiration from mythical Welsh creatures and reference Wales in various ways, Toward Dawn may be the very first Japanese style role-playing game that fully embeds itself in Welsh mythology. It is such an exciting prospect to play a game respecting Welsh culture and history so extensively, particularly as it comes from somebody from outside of Wales that has fallen in love with the country.

These are the kinds of video games we must show as much support for as possible, so I urge people to click here and head on over to Steam to pick Toward Dawn up today!

If you get time and would like to learn more about the development of Toward Dawn, you can watch and listen to my chat with Gina on YouTube by clicking here.

Llongyfarchiadau, Gina! Congratulations on everything you have achieved with Toward Dawn!
